Bushman Injured.—Charles Taylor, a young bushman, aged 20, was injured at Motu yesterday and sent to Gisborne Hospital.
Bad Fishing.—Conditions are not favourable for fishing at Taupo. The weather is cold, and snow lies on the ranges.
No Tourist Tax.—The "Wanganui River Trust has decided against the proposal to impose a tax of 2s 6d on tourists travelling on the river.
Thrown From Her Horse.—A married woman, Mrs. Polly Wat tie, was thrown from hei horse at KaiteraXihi and admitted to Gisborne Hospital in a serious condition.
Fire at Takapuna.—A gorse fire on a vacant section in Ngaio Road, Takapuna, yesterday afternoon was easily extinguished by the Takapuna Fire Brigade. No damage was done.
Burst Tyre Causes Accident.—A tyre burst on a heavy motor-car in Opotiki yesterday with the result that it collided with a small stationary car, causing considerable damage. No one received injury.
Northcote Street.—Concreting on one side of Queen Street, Northcote, has now been concluded from the wharf to Onewa Theatre.The western side will now be put in hand, and it is hoped to complete the work early next year.
New 14-Footer Launched.—Dunedin’s new Rona type 14-footer. Eileen, was successfully launched last evening at Ravensbourne. The new boat will take part in tests next month to select Otago’s challenger for the Sanders Cup.
Found Hanging From Tree.—The body of George Newman, aged 60. was found hanging from a tree in a small plantation near Timaru last night. Deceased had been in ill-health for some time. He was married and had an adult family.—Press Association.
Boulder Blocks Railway.—A big boulder, weighing about two tons, rolled against a goods train a mile past Mangaweka yesterday evening It pulled up against the wagon behind the engine The guard walked to Mangaweka and obtained a gang to clear the line.
Soldier Teachers Rewarded.—Five returned soldier teachers, in the service of the Auckland Education Board, have not gained certificates. In view of the facts that their study had been broken *»-- war service and that their efficiency was above the average, the board decided to apply for perpetual licences for them.
Man’s Feet Crushed. —Both feet were crushed and one ankle fractured when W. Buchanan, aged 42, of 7 Pitt Street, was run over by a motor-lorry at the corner of Jellicoe Street and Halsey Street shortly after o o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr. Buchanan is employed as a labourer for Mason Bros., engineers and boiler-makers, of Beaumont Street. He was taken to hospital by the St. John Ambulance.
