A considerable amount of public interest is already centring around the big race meeting to be held on Saturday, December 1, at Alexandra Park. The fact that the proceeds are to go toward the Mayor’s Unemployed Fund should also contribute to the success of the meeting. APPEARANCE OF COLEMAN Motor-cycle fans will be interested to know that Percy Coleman, one of New Zealand’s leading riders, will appear. Coleman has established a record for himself and his best time to date for a mile on a grass track is 455 sec., the time being taken by Douglas. With the news that besides fixtures arranged by local motor-cycle clubs, a speedway will provide racing meetings in the near future, public interest in this fascinating sport should reach a high pitch this season. * * * OLD CLUB REVIVED The Harley-Davidson Touring and Social Club has been revived, and arrangements are being made for outings and meetings in the near future. A meeting of the committee was held last evening and the general meeting is being held on Thursday, December 1, for the purpose of electing officers and generally re-forming the club. All old members and intending new members are requested to attend. A branch is being formed for riders of other makes of machines. SPORTS MOTOR-CYCLE CLUB The following programme has been arranged by the committee for December:— December 4: Muriwai speed trials, leaving Western Springs, Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday, 8 a.m. December 11: Social run to Orr’s Beach, Papatoetoe, leaving Tlarp of Erin, 10 a.m. December 18: Social run and sports at Ferndale, leaving Western Springs, 10 a.m. At the Muriwai speed trials on December 4 Spencer Stratton will attempt to set a record over a surveyed mile on the beach, using his new 35 twin carburetter “Indian.” SMOKE CONCERT A smoke concert is to be held in Mangere Central Hall on Saturday, December 17, at 8 p.m. A number of good items have been arranged for, and a presentation of prizes recently won , at the club’s sports will take place.
Bus transport has been arranged both from the city and Onehunga tram terminus. HAMILTON HILL CLIMB The Hamilton Club’s hill climb held at Tauwhare last week proved quite successful and attracted a large number of competitors from the Auckland Sports Club. The fine weather and a large entry resulted in good climbing being witnessed. Over 20 Sports Club members rode through on Saturday and camped at Hamilton; the remainder coming through on Sunday. The riders are to be complimented on the orderly manner in which they conducted themselves both while in camp and on the road. » Following are the results: 350 c.c. Class: Parsons (A.J.S.), 19 l-ssec; Griffiths (Rex), Picard, 20sec. Over 350 c.c.: Moorcroft (0.E.C.), 20 4-ssec; Carnegie (0.E.C.), 21 4-ssec. Open Handicap: Casbmore (8.5. A.), Moorcroft (0.E.C.), Picard. Final Handicap: L. McLaren (A.J.S.), C. Walker (Rex). The banner presented for the fastest climb of the day resulted in a tie between Parsons, Ratcliffe and Finn, the time being 19 l-ssec. The tie will be run off at a later date as it was too late to stage a further event that day. OPOTIKI RACES As usual, the Opotiki Motor-cycle Club will hold its annual races on the Opotiki racecourse on Boxing Day. An attractive programme’ has been arranged and being a holiday period, a large number of riders from all parts of the island are likely to compete. BELGIAN GRAND PRIX The Belgium Grand Prix resulted in a British walk-over. The detailed results are:—Senior Race (500 c.c.): S. Woods, Norton, 71.7 m.p.li., 1; G. Nott, Rudge, 09.3 m.p.h., 2; Van Borne, D. 61.2 m.p.h., 3. Lightweight Race (250 c.c.): S. A. Crabtree, Crabtree J.A.P., 57.4 m.p.h., 1; G. Davidson, Levis, 55.6 m.p.h., 2.
