A Tribute to P. & R. Batteries /» * A ■Ui L\ X a. The Grand Prit is no joy-rid*! miles in 2+ hours ct an average of ei.i tn.p.h. is some going and speaks toell f ir the P and R batteries that helped the Bentley to victory—especially after that mash. Read about FOUR cars, the French Schneider and the three British Bentleys, were involved in the most sensational night crash ever recorded in the history of road racing. The Schneider, in taking a bend, carried away twenty yards of wall and stopped, disabled, right across the road to be crashed into at 80 m.p.h., one after another, by the three Bentleys! By a miracle no one was killed. By a miracle, too, the No. 3 Bentley escaped with nothing worse than a bent front axle, a smashed wheel, a torn running board (carrying its faithful P. & R. Battery), and a headlight reduced to a mass of crumpled metal, causing a short circuit that put a heavy drain on the battery. But the light that was left never failed. Never even blinked—and when Mr. Davis had fitted & spare wheel and made fast his accumulator with a piece of string (!) he just stepped on ihe starter—and off shot the Bentley on its 18-hour chase to victory! And although Bentleys No. 1 and 2 were smashed beyond repair, when they were dug out of the wreckage their light were still burning brightly No, this Grand Prix is no joy ride—and a deuce of a lot depends on your batteries. If your electric starter won’t start, then you stay where von are. You’re not allowed to get out and crank her up. If your lights fail —so do you. They’re as dead set on lights at night as a traffic “cop”! We trust that you’ll never need your P. & R. in a case like this, but it’s great to know you ean rely on it at all times.
