Ngataringa Club With an enthusiastic membership of 88, and five new courts, Ngataringa Tennis Club, Stanley Bay, opened on j Saturday afternoon. It has been proposed to build eventually a total of seven courts, but in the meantime only five chip courts are available. The weather conditions prevented all the courts being formed. They will be semi-public courts, controlled by the new Ngataringa Club. The whole is portion of the new Stanley Bay recreation area, which will provide a children’s section, croquet lawns, a garden area, and room for cricket and football.

Mr. C. M. Browne. president of the club, after expressing thanks to the Mayor, at seein gthe courts an accomplished fact after long endeavr ours, asked the members to encourage the club by getting as many new members as possible into the “net.” “I wish to th„nk the people of Stanley Bay for their public spirit,” said the Mayor, Air. E. Aldridge. “Your efforts have turned an unsightly and useless swamp into the makings of a fine sports area.”

The special rating area had provided practically all of the money required, and very little, if any, of the £6.000 that will be spent will have to come from general rates.

He then officially declared the courts open, and called upon Miss Aldridge to serve the first ball.
