WHAKATANE TOURNAMENT There was a good attendance at the boxing tournament held in Whakatane. Mr. w. Carruthers acted as referee. The bouts resulted as follows: Four Hounds. —J. Hickey (Opotiki*, 8.2, v. R. Reeve (Taneatua), 5.2. Hickey won on points. Five Rounds. —R. Chalklen (Opotiki). 10. S, v. B. Robinson (.Gisborne), 9.5. Chalklen gained the decision, his opponent throwing in the towel. Three Rounds. —L. Reeves (Taneatua). 9st. v. J. Smith, (Morrinsville), 9st 71b. A draw. Four Rounds. —A. McDonald (Awakeri), 12s 51b. v. J. McGuire (Taneatua) 12st 101 b. McGuire was knocked down’in the first round, and the bout was abandoned. Three Rounds. —V. McGuire (Thornton) list 101 b. v. T. Doulton (Taneatua). 10s 131 b. Doulton won on points. Four Rounds. —C. Simpson (Gisborne). 9st 21b, V. G. Savage (Awakeri). 10st 71b. A draw. . Four Rounds. —S. "Wells (Opotiki I. 13s 91b v. A. Reeves (Taneatua). Don bv Wells A section of the audience hooted the decision, but the majority agreed L. Reeves, a brother of A. Reeves jumped into the ring and behaved in a hostile manner to the referee and the loser behaved likewise. Four Rounds. —D. Glover (Opotiki). Sst 91b, v. L. Bunn (Awakeri), 9st 21b.
