PERSONAL. —Captain R. M. Kane has been appointed master of the Poolta, relieving Captain J. W. Cameron for holidays.
Mr. H. W. Jones, second officer of the Waikawa, has come ashore for instructions, and his place has been taken by Air. S. W. Hodson.
Mr. D. W. Williams has been appointed second officer of the Maunganui temporarily.
Mr. W Kehoe has rejoined the Poolta as second officer, relieving Mr. R. H. C. Hargraves for holidays. Mr. N. J. Siepen, late chief officer of the Maheno, has been transferred to the Maunganui. Mr. F. W. Collins has joined the Waitemata as chief officer, relieving Mr. A. MacDonald for further orders. Mr. J. Mac Neill, third officer of the Waitemata, has been granted holidays, and his place has been taken by Mr. fc. B. Ward. .
KUROW FOR NEWCASTLE. —At 5 p m to-day the Union Company’s cargo steamer Kurow is being dispatched from Auckland for Newcastle, where she will probably load for Auckland. KARTIGI LEAVES SYDNEY.— CabIe advice received by the local office of the Union Company states that the cargo steamer Kartigi sailed from Sydney noon on Saturday for Auckland, where she is expected to arrive next Friday.
MANUKA’S TIME-TABLE.— The local office of the Union Company has been advised that the Manuka, on her return from Melbourne this trip, leaves Wellington on December 12, instead of December 13, for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff and Melbourne.
AORANGI NEARS SUVA. —The Union Company advises that the R.M.M.S Aorangi, en route from Vancouver, via ports, is due at Suva on Thursday and at Auckland next Sunday. She is announced to leave this port at 11 a.m. on Mondav, December 5, for Sydney.
KANNA FOR OVERHAUL. —The Union Company advises that the collier Kanna, which left Greymouth at noon on Saturday for Tauranga and Auckland, is due here about Thursday, and, after discharge at Auckland, undergoes her annual overhaul and survey at this port. VERONICA UNDOCKS. —After spending a month in Calliope Dock refitting the sloop H.M.S. Veronica undocked this morning and berthed at sheerlegs wharf, alongside the Laburnum, to complete her overhaul. WARSHIPS LEAVE FOR THE GULF. —The warships Dunedin and Diomede left Auckland this morning, the Dunedin at 9.30 and the Diomede at 9.50 a.m., for the Hauraki Gulf to carry out 14 days’ gunnery practice. On arriving back cfgain they will remain in port over Christmas. KEKERANGU'S MOVEMENTS. —Due at Portland at 3 o'clock this afternoon, the Union Company Advises that the Kekerangu leaves there early on Wed nesday for Auckland, where she completes her discharge, of South Australian cargo. .From this port the vessel proceeds to Sydney to load for New Zealand. PACIFIC TRANSPORT FOR WESTPORT.—At present discharging Nauru phosphates at Auckland, the tramp steamer Pacific Transport is expected to leave here on Wednesday for Westport for bunkers. Henderson and Macfarlane. the local agents, have not yet received advice of her future movements. WEST IVAN AT NELSON.— Now discharging Pacific Coast cargo at Nelson, the American steamer West Ivan is expected to leave there on Thursday for Lyttelton, thence Dunedin and Bluff, to complete her discharge, after which the vessel returns to the Pacific Coast to load again for New Zealand. WAI PA H I FOR FIJI. —The local office of the Union Company* has been advised that the Island fruit steamer Waipahi sailed from Westport midnight on Saturday for Auckland and is due here tomorrow. After discharge here the vessel sails on Friday for Suva, where she is to load fruit on December S for Auckland. TOFU A LATE. —Radio advice received by the Union Company states that the Island passenger steamer Tofua is now expected to arrive at Auckland at 6 a.m. to-morrow from Suva. After pratique has been granted the vessel will berth about S a.m. at the Queen s Wharf to land her passengers, mails and cargo. Next Saturday at 11 a.m. the Tofua sails from Auckland for Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. REMUERA AT TIMARU. —The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the liner Remuera arrived at Timaru yesterday from Bluff, and sails to-morrow tor Wellington, Napier, Gisborne and Auckland to complete her loading. She is due here on December 7, and sails finally from this port on December 10 for Southampton and London, via PanPORT HARDY AT BLUFF. The Farmers Co-operative Auetioneerying Company advises that the C. and D. Line’s steamer Fort Hardy arrived at Bluff yesterday from Wellington and leaves on Wednesday for Lyttelton, Wellington, Gisborne and Auckland to complete her loading. She is due here on December 11, and sails finally from this port on December 15 for New York, Boston, Halifax and London, via Panama. ATHENIC FROM HOME. —With 377 passengers, Including 232 immigrants, the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Athenic arrived at Auckland last evening from Liverpool. She anchored in the stream for medical inspection and berthed at a quarter past 7 this morning at Prince’s Wharf to land her passengers, and commence the discharge of her general cargo. The Athenic loaded at Glasgow, Avonmouth and Liverpool, and sailed Anally from the last-named port on October 8. Arriving at Colon on November 2 she took on two passengers, and cleared Balboa finally the same day. Moderate to fair weather prevailed coming across the Atlantic, while the weather this side of Panama left little to be desired. She stopped at Pitcairn Island on the way across the Pacific to pick up a bag of Captain J. W. Binks, R.D., R.N.R., is in command, and with him are the following officers:—Chief officer. Mr. F. Foyster; second, Mr. G. P. Walters: third, Mr. T. Holmes; fourth, Mr. F. L. Keane; fifth, Mr. W. Hill; sixth, Mr. A. IT. Griffiths; chief egineer, Mr. J. E. Roberts; surgeon. Mr. J. E. TIMARU HARBOUR LIGHTS. A notice to mariners issued by* the Marine Department notifies that the Timaru Harbour Board has reported that the hood lights recently installed at the railwav yards, Timaru. are visible seaward of the port and to ships approaching from seen at a considerable distance. Owing seen a a considerable distance. Owing to their elevation and brilliancy the flood lights may on some bearings apparently lessen the prominence of the harbour light. RUAHINE LEAVES SOUTHAMPTON. —Cable advice received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Companystates that the liner Ruahine, en route from London, sailed from Southampton last Fridav afternoon for Wellington and Auckland. The vessel is due at Wellington on December 31 and at Auckland a week later. Captain E. T. Smith still retains command of the Ruahine. CANADIAN PIONEER RETURNING. —The Canadian Government steamer Canadian Pioneer arrived at Wellington on Saturday evening from the South to continue loading. TURAKINA IN PORT. —On Saturday evening th< New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Turakina arrived in the stream at Auckland from New Plymouth and berthed yesterday* morning at the Queen’s Wharf. She commenced loading this morning, and leaves on Wednesday afternoon for Napier, Wanganui, Wellington and Lyttelton to complete. The Turakina is scheduled to sail finally from Ly*ttelton on December 15 for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool and Glasgow, via Panama.
HINEMOA FROM NORFOLK ISLAND. —NVith nearly* 20 passengers and a quantity of mail and fruit, the New Zealand GoVernment steamer Hinemoa arrived back at Auckland this morning shortly after ten o’clock from Norfolk Island. She berthed at eleven o'clock at King's \\ hari to land her passengers and discharge the mail. The Hinemoa left Auckland on November 21 and experienced fine weather all the way* to Norfolk and back until this morning, when she encountered rough seas, strong head winds and boisterous conditions. Arriving at the island on November 24, she discharged and loaded and sailed again the next day on the return trip, having taken one day less than usual to do the Norfolk Island trip. The following passengers arrived at Auckland this morning by* the Hinemoa: Misses Rossiter (2). Nlr. and Nlrs. Allen. Mrs. Clarke and. child. Spedding, Limited, the local agents, advise that the Hinemoa is to be dispatched again at 5 o’clock on Wednesday afternoon for Niue Island. The Hauturu left Onehunga on Saturday* evening for Hokianga. She is due back again to-morrow morning, when she will load and sail again later the same day* for Raglan, Kawhia and Port Waikato.
