MOUNT ALBERT CARNIVAL

SCHOOL TO BENEFIT A successful carnival on Saturday, organised by the school committee and staff of the Mount Albert District School to raise funds toward improvements of the playgrounds, was opened in the school grounds, Morningside, by the Mayor of Mount Albert, Mr. L. E. Rhodes. A large attendance of parents and friends assured the success of the effort. The staff had organised a comprehensive programme of displays. These included drill, basket-ball, maypole dancing and folk dances. The school choir and orchestra gave selections during the afternoon. In the school rooms there was a collection of the pupils’ work on display. One feature was a flower show, which formed a scene of decorative beauty, j Stalls in the grounds were in charge |of the ladies of the district. They i proved a great success, as did also the [afternoon tea rooms. Sports were car* [ried on in the lower playing areas.
