PIGEON RACING
SATURDAY’S RESULTS The Ponsonby Club’s race from Taumarunui (airline 144 miles) was won by Mr. H. Keane’s b c c Ascot Pride with a net velocity of 1,282 yards a minute: Mr. S. Webb’s b c c Young Lord Star, 1.281 yards, second: and Mr. W. Cole’s r c c Grand National, 1,273 yards, third. Five members of the Ponsonby Club flew a single up interval race from Levin. The winning bird, Quincoma, owned by Mr. L. Hunter, did the journey in Shr 30min. North Shore Flying Club flew- a race from Te Kuiti (106 miles), Mr. S. Gorman gaining a win with his b c c Air King. Mr. A. C. Crow-hurst’s p c La Pagne was second, and Mr. E. Andrew, with his b c. c Silent Cruiser, was third.
The Premier Club flew a race from Taumarunui. The birds w-ere liberated at 9.30 a.m. and the winning bird, Mr. J. Green’s b c c Silver Rain, b c c Silver Lad, clocked in at 12.47 p.m. Mr. Mr. H. Rigg’s b h p h Golden Queen and blk c c Golden Minstrel, 1.340yd5, 2; Mr. R. McCarthy’s b c c Master Mind and b c p h Lady Joan. 1.296vd5. 3.
The Ladies’ Bracelet race ffrom Ohakune w-as flown by the Dominion Homing Pigeon Club, the winning pair of birds beipg timed in at three minutes to one. Mr. W. A. Billings’s Lady Lillian and Arabelle, l,3s2ydsf were first: Mrs. A. Alexander’s Penrose Pride and Rummy, 1.351.4yd5, second, and Mr. L. Cantell’s Ideal and Mountaineer. 1,351yd5, third.
