I» the Senate the Vice-President of the Executive Council, Sir George Pearce, said he had not seen a Press report to the effect that a joint committee of the New Zealand Parliament had recommended the opening of negotiations with the Commonwealth Government for the establishment of a shipping service between the Southern ports of New Zealand and Australia.
Sir George said any representations that might be matte by the New Zealand Goverment would, of course, be given consideration.—A. and N.Z.
The committee’s recommendation was: “That in view of the unsatisfactorv shipping- service between Australia and the South Island, via the Bluff, the Government should open negotiations with the Australian Government with a view to seeing if it was not to the interests of both parties to establish a better service.” „
