Shock to Society
GERMAN PRINCESS WEDS CONSTABLE WEALTHY WOMAN By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. noon. BERLIN, Friday. Princess Sophie, who is reputedly the second wealthiest woman in Germany, was quietly married to Herr von Hedemann at her castle church near the village of Rastede, in the presence of the Grand Duke of Oldenburg and a few near relatives.—A. and N.Z. An earlier cablegram said:—Consternation prevails among the Hohenzollerns at Potsdam because of the engagement of the Duchess Sophie Charlotte, who, in 1926, divorced the ex-Kaiser’s second son, Prince Eitel Friedrich, to Herr von Hedemann, who was formerly a constable and has been an officer in the Dragoon Guards.
Society is shocked at the idea of her marrying a man who is considerably younger than she and far beneath her station in life. Her father was the Grand Duke Frederich Augustus of Oldenburg, and he married Princess Elisabeth of Prussia in IS7B.
