BLAIR FOUND GUILTY
MOTOR-CYCLISTS’ DEATH MERCY RECOMMENDED SENTENCE POSTPONED ( f rom Our Oum Correspondent) HAMILTON. To-day. The trial of John Blair, charged with the negligent driving of a motorear and causing the death of John Ward and Walter Thornton Reynolds, was concluded in the Hamilton Supreme Court to-day. The two mu u were riding a motor-cycle and were struck by Blair’s car at Miller's Corner. Ward was killed outright and Reynolds died shortly after. In the course of his address to the jury. Mr. Justice Herdman pointed out that the public were entitled to u>e the roads and streets and persons driving vehicles were bound to exercise reasonable care. He declared that 90 per cent, of the cases which had come before him in the last 10 years were the result of unreasonable speed. The jury was away three hours, and then returned with a verdict of guilt>. with a strong recommendation to mercy on account of Blair’s age. 20 years. Sentence was postponed until Wednesday, and Blair was released oil his own recognisance.
