WHEN IS A MOTOR LORRY?

HEAVY-TRAFFIC LEVY VEHICLES OVER TWO TONS (THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Friday. Consistent perusal of the laws relating to roads and vehicles would lead to the conviction that the Government is not leaving many loopholes for motorists to escape from the tightening up of taxable avenues. The latest is the amendment to the Public Works Act which alters the law relating to heavy traffic vehicles. Hitherto the term motor-lorry, coming under the heavy-traffic law, was described as "a motor vehicle used for hire or commercial purposes in the carriage of goods or passengers, with a weight exceeding two tons.” These qualifications are now cut out, and the interpretation of the clause indicates that a man importing a heavy oar. over two tons in weight, comes m the category of heavy traffic, and is liable for licence and fees.
