EVENING SPORTS AT THE DOMAIN
YESTERDAY’S CONTESTS FAST CYCLE RACE A growing interest is being taken every week in the evening sports meetings at the Domain. About a hundred spectators, who were present at a meeting under the auspices of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club and the Manukau Amateur Cycling and Athletic Club at the Domain last evening, witnessed one of the best cycle races ridden for some time. The following are the results: 100Yds Handicap.—First heat: A. J. Elliott (scr.). 1; D. P. Deere (SJyds), 2; R. Willey (Tiyds), 3. Time, 10 l-ssecs. Second heat: J. L. McCoy (21yds), 1; L. R. Hook (2£yds), 2; A. G. Bond (4yds), 3. Time, 10 l-ssecs. Final Heat: A. J. Elliott, 1: J. L. McCoy, 2; R. Willey, 3. Time, 10 l-ssecs. 440Yds Handicap.—J. W. Savidan (10 yds), 1: W. R. L. Vallance (22vds), 2: TV. Watt (28yds), 3. Time, 53secs. 1 Mile Relay Handicap.—A Team (J. S. Watt, J. L». MrCov, A. J. Elliott), scr., 1; B Team (J. W. Savidan. D. P. Deere, L. H. Meredith), 15yds, 2. Time, 3m 395. Watt and Savidan each ran 880yds. Watt gave his opponent 15yds and beat him in a close, well contested race by! 2ft. 3 Mile Manukau Cycle Handicap.—l2 Rounds: J. H. Wade (40yds). 1: H. O. Brewin (120yds), 2: C. I. Gainsborough (160vds), 3; A. G. Baird (100yds), 4. Winner's time, 7m 37 l-os; time of second man, 7m SS 4-5?. Wade, who started as virtual sf-rat<'h man, came up to take the lead during the seventh round. His time for the first two miles was 4m 58s, a fine performance.' The track is remarkably fast this season, and this has led M. P. Byrnes, the Auckland champion, to decide to attempt to break the New Zealand 3 mile cycle record next Wednesday.
