Forbury Park Spring Fixture

TO-MORROW’S CARD INTERESTING

The Forbury Park Trotting Club’s spring fixture, which is a popular function in the South Island commences to-morrow and will be concluded on Saturday. Quality is well represented in the fields and the sport will be interesting. The spring fixture is the first of the new season’s light harness sport in Bunedin and is one that usually raises the enthusiasm of the “doursouthers.” On this occasion the fields in the main will not be on the big side, but there is sufficient material to guarantee some exciting racing. It is unfortunate that this Southern meeting and the Otahuhu fixture clashes, as both suffer to a certain degree. Probably before the cards are arranged for next November some reasonable understanding between both clubs will be arrived at. The totalisator will be set in motion to receive investments on the ROSLYN HANDICAP 1 mile 5 furlongs Genevieve . Lt. Dolores .... 36 Major Domo . Lt. Sid Wilkes . . 3G Wilkie Bard . Lt. Lord Tracev . 4S Ria Audubon Lt. Peter the First 48 Len Wood ... 12 Master Peter . 72 Greywood ... 12 Avalanche . . 84 Hawkesbury Nelson Pride .... 24 McKinney . . 144 Jade ..... 24 This is a field of trotters . of the improving class, and some promising performers are engaged. From the front Major Domo should be troublesome. He has won some fair races on the Coast, and if he reproduces his best form must be given a chance. Len YVood and Greywood are a use-

ful pair, and the former may carry too much condition for his opponent. Hawkesbury Pride and Jade are handily placed, and the latter, who is engaged in better company later, must be held) in respect. The improving American-bred Dolores will also be close up. Lord Tracey has been threatening to collect a stake for some time now and may find things suitable here. Master Peter, Avalanche and Nelson McKinney are a solid trio, and the latter has recent winning form on his side. There may be most money for Jade, Lord Tracey and Dolores. A big field of pacers will parade for the

PROGRESSIVE HANDICAP 1 mile 5 furlongs Onoto Lt. Dillon Blake . 12 Stockade Sadie Huon . . 24 Junior . . . Lt. Kinney Dillon 36 Celestial .... Lt. Slump 48 Sir Author * . Lt. Nihilist Junior 72 Lmda Chimes Lt. Wild Pigeon 72 Homelight . . Lt. Great Form . . 72 John Appear . Lt. Drake .... 72 Dahlia Kibiringi ... 84 Dillon Lt. Nelson I irebrand .. . Lt. McElwyn . . . 108

A very fair lot will start off the front row in this heat, including Stockade Junior, who is very well. Sir Author, a promising maiden, Homelight and Firebrand, both of whom have pretentions to higher class. Dahlia Dillon, if she were more reliable, would probably be the elect of the limit lot. Sadie Huon, another “iffy” customer, appears to be taking a more sensible view of things of late and will be one that should show up when the fight is hottest. Slump is showing better form £and is in racing condition, and the ime may be said of Nihilist Junior. Drake and Kilringi are good sorts, but may require a run or two. The back-marker, Nelson McElwyn, is a brilliant pacer, and if dressed in his best -suit will give the rest a glimpse of his pace. The elect may be Firebrand, Sadie Huon, Nelson McElwyn. Those who like to support horses with the weight up will have their turn in the

ST. KILDA HANDICAP 1 mile Four Bells . . Lt. Acre 12 Robert Bell . . Lt. Lady Embrace 12 Nipper .... Lt. Coldwater ... 12 Desborough . . Lt. Jolly Chimes . . 12 Omaha Lt. Doctor Dillon . 24 Queen's General General . . Lt. Bingen .... 36 Van Director . Lt.

The front contingent promises to be a nuisance in this, as Robert Bell, Nipper and Omaha are all speedy and will take a lot of catching. Then there is Queen’s General, and if the grey mare has got the beetle out of her head and leaves the mark, those in the rear would be out of breath trying to catch her. Acre is in winning vein just now, and off his mark will take all sorts' of beating, and Jolly Chimes is a jolly good sort in races of this description. Doctor Billon is on a handy mark, and if he did it right would be in the firing line. General Bingen’s Addington form points to him being in the money, and the public may fancy Acre, General Bingen and Robert Bell. A small field will go to the post in the SPRING HANDICAP 2 miles Master Peter Lt. Swiftbine . . 48 Jade Lt. Underviewer . , 48 Nelson Ata . . 12 Randolph ... 60 Avalanche . . 24 Master Peter and Jade are on the end and, taking a line through their earlier handicap, the former must hold the latter safe, and, in fact, should get a share of the prize. Nelson Ata is showing a return to form, and will require to be seriously considered, and Avalanche is placed where it is quite possible to be handy at the finish. Swiftbine and Underviewer are solid trotters, and the latter appears to have the better form, and .Randolph would only require to be right to get the lion’s share. When it cames to settling up the order may be Master Peter, Nelson Ata, Randolph. The field may not be over large but is certainly classy in the PRESIDENT'S HANDICAP 2 miles .Bell Harold . . Lt. Author Jinks . . 36 Downcast ... 12 Dalnahine . . . 3G Bonny Logan . 12 Ffglit Ever . . 36 Taurekareka . . 12 Talent 3t> Trampfast ... 24 Away 48 Trenand .... 24 Bell Harold, off the end, may be capable of seeing out a solid two miles, but Taurekareka looks like holding Tomkinson's charge and Downcast and Bonny Logan safe. In fact, it will, take a good one to head off the ex-Oak-hampton representative. Trampfast will not disgrace the prestige of the trotting fraternity, and Trenand is always liable to pull out a good effort. Dalnahine won the big race at Oamaru like the good horse he is, and his return to form suggests more money for his connections. Author Jinks raced most conspicuously at Addington, and if well handled in this heat will be right in it at the finish. Fight Ever and Talent are a solid nail*, while Away is a great pacer when right. In a spirited betting race Dalnahine, Taurekareka and Author Jinks may be favourites. The next pacing event to come up for decision is the CAYERSHAM HANDICAP 2 miles San down . . . Lt. Acre 24 Kate Thorpe . Lt. Lingfield ... 24 Quality .... 12 Evelyn Desert Star . . 12 Locanda ... 24 Logan Hanlon 12 Pointalena . . 36 Zenith .... 12 Fashion Queen 72 Eleven fair class contestants are billed to appear here, and of those near the front line. Quality, Desert Star and Logan Hanlon will appeal most. The former after many failures has come

solid, and should go on to reach higher society. Desert Star has threatened to win for a while now. and Logan Hanlon, when he strikes the top of his form, is a pacer full of promise. Acre may be penalised when this heat comes along, and Lingfield is one to keep on side with. Evelyn Locanda was knocking hard on two occasions recently at Addington, and the racing will have done her good. Pointalena is not out of the argument either, and Fashion Queen may be short of the right work. 'When it comes to balance up most money will probably be on Quality, Evelyn Locanda, Logan Hanlon. Trotters with more class in their favour will measure strides in the DOMINION HANDICAP 2 miles Ingle Bingen . Lt. Engagement . . 4S Herbclwyn . . Lt. Little Logan . . 60 Proud Ata ... 12 Lee Todd ... 60 Nighborn . . . 36 Young Blake . 96 Frisco Beau . . 36

Right on the end is Ingle Bingen, and as she is at home there is every reason to believe the one-eyed trotter will give a sound display. She only requires to go correctly to give the others a headache. Herbilwin may not be ready for two miles, but if ripe, look out. Proud Ata is always a customer to be considered, and old Nighborn’s consistency and doggedness will surely carry him into the picture. Frisco Beau was well at National time, and raced as if he was getting solid. Engagement is where she would not find it difficult to get some of the money if ready for a fight, and Little Logan has recent winning form to recommend him. Le Todd has the pace if he will keep down, and Young Blake, despite his failures at Addington earlier in the month, must commend respect. The favourites may be Ingle Bingen, Frisco Beau, Nighborn. The sport and speculation for the day will be brought to a conclusion with the DASH HANDICAP 1 mile Avenger . . . Lt. Bob Logan . 12 Menember . . Lt. Bingen Lad . . 12 Hnanui .... Lt Event 24 Jolly Chimes . Lt. Fight Ever . . 48 Lady Terence Dillon 48 Embrace . . . Lt. Ten will go to the barrier in this final flutter, and of the front lot Avenger is sure to be the best fancied; in fact, he will be one of the elect of the field. His Christchurch form certainly points to an early return for his connections. Menember will give a lot of trouble, and Lady Embrace can go a quick mile. Bob Logan is on a handy mark and must be one to be in the picture. Bingen Lad is no slug over eight furlongs, and Event, if in the humour, will add a heap of interest to the event. Fight Ever can run a merry clip and so can Terence Dillon, who is a brilliant customer when tuned up. Southerners know his worth over any distance, and it is quite possible that when the machine stmts down, Terence Dillon, Avenger, Bob Logan will be the order. REMAINING IN AUCKLAND

CORRIGAN’S STRING FOR HAMILTON

CARDINAL LOGAN AND AUCKLAND CUP

Most of the visiting horses which took part at the Otahuhu fixture aj'e remaining in the district for a term. A. Hendricksen has decided to keep

Cardinal Logan and Daytime here till after the Christmas carnival, which suggests that the runner-up in the New Zealand Cup will receive a special Auckland Cup preparation in local territory. J. Bullock intends remaining at Epsom till the middle of next week, when he leaves for Hamilton. He

will return to Auckland for a few days prior to visiting YVhangarei, after which he will make for his home in Hawera, where he has a large team in work. The majority of the wearers of the blue, gold and brown livery will be in action at the South Wai- , rarapa Christmas meeting. The Corrigan team at present ivi Auckland consists of Sister Beatrice, a dual winner, and Petroleuse and

Gfeat Change, both winners at the Otahuhu fixture, DilVon Huon, who filled a place each >day, and Mary Audubon. YV. Hughes, the hongburn mentor, will also in all probability remain in the 'North till after the YY'aikato fixture.
