A NEW CONDUCTOR

A BRILLIANT pianist and a fine orchestral conductor are among the qualifications of Mr. John Bishop, of London, who was last evening appointed conductor of the Royal Wellington Choral Society. Mr. Bishop is a South Australian, but has latterly been residing in London, where his musical education was completed. He is said to be a man of strong character and striking personality, and is highly recommended by Madame Ada Crossley. Upon the question of the appointment of a conductor, there has been a big division in the Wellington Society’s ranks, followers of Mr. Temple White, the late conductor, expressing themselves very strongly on several occasions. Dissensions in the ranks of the musicians, however, are not unusual.
