Burglars at Raetihi.—During the week-end burglars entered the drapery store of Mr. L. Lugton, Raetihi, and got away with a valuable haul. Flaxmill Burned.—A flaxmill, plant and a quantity of fibre, owned by the Te Puke Flaxmilling Company, Pukehina, was destroyed by fire on Saturday evening. Struck by Motor-Car.—A young man named Honi Day was knocked down by a motor-car in Hamilton yesterday and severely bruised. Drunk and Mischievous.—Arthur McDonald, who appeared at the Police Court to-day*, was fined 10s for drunkenness and 20s for damaging a bicycle. Without Licences.—For fishing without licences at Taupo, V. C. Flight and G. F. Flight were fined £2 each and costs. For shooting without a licence, they were each fined £ 5 and costs. Stowaway Arrested. —John McCallum, who pleaded guilty at the Police Court to-day to a charge of stowing away on the Maunganui at Sydney, was remanded to appear to-morrow for sentence. Te Kuiti Water. —Residents on the higher levels in Te Kuiti will benefit by the increased pressure of the borough water supply, owing to the chlorination plant having been raised 30 feet, thereby allowing a greater fall.
War Memorial Land Dispute.—W. J. Poison and another claimed £413 from Hope Gibbons, former Mayor of Wanganui. yesterday, for the land on Burie Hill, on which the city's war memorial is built, and which, it was slated for the plaintiffs, was not a gift but was sold. It was alleged that defendant gave an undertaking to accept personal responsibility .or the amount. Gibbons was a member of the memorial Mr. Justice Ostler reserved decision.
