DUNEDIN SECOND LEG
MILERS IN ACTION AN OPEN CONTEST ALTHOUGH only ten horses figure in the sprint race for the better class horses at Forbury Park on Friday, the heat will be none the less interesting. It will constitute in sporting parlance “the other leg,” and on this account may be accorded keener interest. When speculators have usually decided upon the prospective winner of a big event they turn their attention to the second string or. leg, in order to complete the familiar double. Those .who are interested in affairs at Forbury Park during the week-end will be searching deeply among the records of the mile exponents for some indication in order to couple up with the best in the President’s Handicap. Right on the end is Avenger, a great little horse when ready, and after the racing he experienced in Addington last month, there should not be anything wrong with his condition, and while in Menember, Haunui, Jolly
Chimes and Lady Embrace, he has tough opponents, his form should stand him in good stead as far as they are concerned. Bob Logan has had a good deal of racing since National time, and is overdue, so his turn may be on any day. Bingen Lad is also a cute sort over this distance, and may bob up when everything is quiet. ■Event has speed to spare, but does not use it to advantage, and he has caused many heart-burnings to his connections. The back-markers, Fight Ever and Terence Dillon, are a solid pair, and must give a good account of themselves; in fact, anything in front of this pair will have a job to remain in the vanguard, once they begin to move along. Terence is a great horse over any distance, and although he has been on the easy list for a while, should be forward enough to silence the opposition. Next to Terence Dillon. Fight Ever and Avenger should receive most' support.'
