If Touring the South Island
Freight Charges Across Cook Stait For The information of motorists who are considering visiting the South Island this summer, and who would lik© to take their own cars with them, the following figures are supplied as an indication of freight on cars across from the North to the South Island: Freight is usually charged by the shipping companies on a basis of measurement, and two sets of figures are supplied for comparison. Larger cars or smaller cars will, of course, incur, a relative freight. From Wellington to Lyttelton: Buick, Standard 6, £5 each way. Ford, Tourer, £4 each way. If a return booking is made a reduction of 25 per cent, is available from the return charge. Receipts have to be p.rpduced. Some motorists may prefer to send their car across to Picton, in Marlborough, and drive through the northern part of the South Island, which, by the way, has some of the finest scenery in New Zealand. From Wellington to Picton the freight is 10s less per car than to Lyttelton; that is, a Buick would cost £5, a Ford £4, and other sized cars in comparison. If desired a round trip may be made, the car consigned to Lylttelton on the down trip and the return across Cook Strait made from Picton, or vice versa. In either case, the 25 p.c. return reduction is provided fo.r. As usually, quite numbers of motorists take their cars over the Strait during the Christmas season, early inquiries should be made. Freight space can be booked from this end if desired. •
