SUCCESSFUL SPORTS CARNIVAL AT SWANSON
SECOND ANNUAL GATHERING The second annual sports carnival at Swanson was held in the newlyestablished park and recreation ground on Saturday. The weather was good, and tliere was a large attendance from the surrounding districts. In order to help foster amateur athletics in the district, the local “cracks,” Waugh and Murray, gave an exhibition of sprinting and jumping, which was greatly appreciated. The gold medal presented by Mr. Twohill far the 100 yards local championship was won by A. Paitry after a good tussle with G. Butler, who came second. The local veteran, PI. A. . Robertson, starting from the 25 yard mark, won the challenge cup and medal presented by the Swanson United Football Club. A dance was held in the evening in the new hall recently erected by the Swanson Hall, Ltd. The president of the Sports Committee, Mr. PL Thomson, presented the prizes to the various competitors. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the Auckland merchants and local storekeeper and residents for the very valuable presents donated for the sports. Thanks was also due to Mr. Jackson for the exhibition of dancing given by his juvenile entertainers. The following is a list of prize-winners:— 100yds Schoolboys' Handicap—B. Thorpe 1, R.
