TRAMS TROUNCE PONSONBY MEN
WICKETS TO SPARE A good stand for Tramways sixth wicket carried the score past Ponsonby’s total, and the game was called off when Trammies had made 213 for seven wickets. Ponsonby went in first, the opening batsmen, Davis and Smith, beginning very quietly. Larsen’s bowling accounted for both of them. Davis stepped out for a drive, but didn’t get on to it properly so that it returned to the bowler. Smith went soon after as the result of a leg before decision, and Parker was bowled for a blob. Ward and Harper stuck together for a while, the latter getting some very pretty shots away. When Houston and Fisher got busy in a partnership the runs came much better. Houston was very energetic, and he got his tally to 55 before he returned a hot ball to the bow’ler, Hook. Fisher was 26 when he went out to have a clout at Larsen, but he got the ball high up his bat and presented Carr with an easy catch. Taplin and Carr batted first for Trams, but Taplin never negotiated the unlucky 13. Sutcliff was also run out cheaply, and the same fate came to Carr, although not till after he had made 41. Tlook and Tinkler did not remain long, but Hall at length was joined by Shanagan, and the two had the bowling completely mastered. Shanagan dropped out when the score had been brought up to 200, but Hall was still unbeaten when stumps were drawn, and he had 55 to his credit.
