South Wales Miners March to London
“BALDWIN, YOU MUST GO!” By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Received 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. AVER 200 miners have arrived in London, having- walked u all the way from South Wales, in order to bring the distress in the coalfields before the Government.
'J'HE miners’ march ended in a down-
pour at Trafalgar Square, from where they tramped after lunch to Hyde Park, with lighted safety lamps and dripping banners. They were headed by 160 London ex-service men and followed by pipers, flares and drums. Thousands of spectators were cheering along the route. Ten thousand assembled at Trafalgar Square. The “Red Flag” and the “International” were sung. Mr. J. Maxton, M.P., and Mr. A. J. Cook, president of the Miners’ Federa-
tion, spoke, the latter declaring that the tramp was a re-echo of Berlin, Prussia and New York. Calling attention to the poverty of the miners and the callousness of Baldwlnism, he cried, “Now shout after me, ‘Baldwin, you must go!’” The crowd thrice vociferously responded. and passed a resolution that the Government receive a deputation to hear suggestions for ameliorating the condition of the 60,000 unemployed miners. The marchers will spend the night at the Bethnal Green Town Hall. —A. and N.Z.
