WOULDN’T GIVE AWAY FRUIT FIGHT AT STREET BARROW When Maratom Daji, an Indian fruit seller, would not hand over some of his wares gratis, a white man hit him on Saturday night. AT the Police Court to-day, Eric Lionel Cleaver, aged 36, pleaded guilty to the charge of assault. Senior-Sergeant McCarthy said that accused went to complainant’s barrow and demanded fruit for nothing. Coynplainant would not hand the fruit over, and accused knocked him down. Another Indian, who came to his rescue, was also knocked down. Cleaver was fined £2, in default seven days’ imprisonment.
