AGED MISSIONER

88TH BIRTHDAY TO-MORROW MR. DUNCAN MACPHERSON For 30 years Mr. Duncan Macpherson, who celebrates his 88th birthday to-morrow, was Presbyterian city missioner in Auckland. * Born in Glasgow he lived his early years in Liverpool as a ropemaker. But America lured him away and ho worked for a few years on an Ajinerican farm on the North River, near where Sing Sing Prison now stands. When the American Civil War broke out Mr. Macpherson returned to England and married, but when the pioneers of the covered wagons were pushing toward California the Macphersons joined an immigrant train. Cholera was raging at St. Louis and they returned to England again and came to New Zealand. Mr. Macpherson was appointed missioner in 1884. He is at present living at Devonport.
