GRAND
“CAPTAIN SALVATION” There is a wide gulf between modern balloons and deep sea-going vessels of ancient times, but Marceline Day cleared it in one jump when she was cast for the feminine lead in “Captain Salvation,” Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s screen version of the famous sea-story of the same name by Frederick William Wallace, which is now being shown at the Grand Theatre. This shows the variety of a girl’s life in the movies. Miss Day recently completed the leading feminine role in “Rookies,” in which a regulation army balloon provided many thrills for the players. John S. Robertson, the director of “Captain Salvation,” took his entire company to sea for several weeks, in order to make the ocean sequences for the picture, and as the vessel was one of the old “windjammer” type, the players had quite an eventful voyage. Lars Hanson has the masculine lead opposite Marceline Day in “Captain Salvation,” which is a story of how a young man is ostracised by the people of his town, because of unfounded gossip.
The strong supporting case includes Ernest Torrenqe ' George Fawcett, Pauline Starke and Flora Finch.
