STRONG TONE IN WOOL MARKET

FIRST NAPIER SALE CONTINENT ACTIVE (Special to THE SUN.) NAPIER, Friday. Continental buyers were active at the first Napier wool sale of the 1927-28 season held to-day, and were largely responsible for values being maintained practically or a level with those ruling at the Wellington sale. While coarser wools were slightly easier, finer wools met with a firmer market. With the exception of an odd lot, a catalogue of 15,205 bales changed hands under the hammer. Bradford buyers displayed greater activity than at the Wellington sale and operated sufficiently to keep Con-

tinental buyers up to their limit. At the same time they appeared to satisfy their present requirements. As yet they have not commenced to lift their customary weight of wool, and, it is considered, they will not be operating with their usual strength until after the opening of the London sales, which begin on Tuesday next. After then *t is considered they will be given a fresh basis to work upon and the New. Zealand market will fall into line with values ruling there. France was a keen buyer of finer wools and necks and pieces, and America, Belgium and Germany were strong operators on lines that came up to their special requirements. Australian buyers were also active. The tendency generally was tp force Dominion mills off the market and only an occasional lot fell to their bid. The official range of prices is as follows; Halfbred—
