The representatives of two of the most prominent and wealthy families in America, Miss Sarah Mellon and Mr. Alien Scaife, were married at one of the most elaborately-appointed weddings in the history of America. Mr. Richard Beatty Mellon, banker, father of the bride, had a pavilion erected at a cost of £20,000 for the wedding supper, at which 1,000 guests were present. They included the Secretary to the Treasury, Mr. A. W. Mellon, uncle of the bride, and leaders In the business affairs and social life of the State. The gifts were estimated to be worth more than £IOO,OOO. They occupied three rooms and included rare silver, paintings by old masters, linens, rare books, and antique jewellery.—A. and N.Z. _.
