WAITING FOR LOANS The present state of the Main South Road at Huntly has resulted in the local body receiving no end of criticism, particularly over the loose metal which is very noticeable to passing motorists. At Tuesday night's meeting the chairman, Mr. E. George, explained that the board was coming in for sharp criticism through no fault of its own. Acting under the instructions of the engineer, no shingle for blinding purposes was allowed, in view of the fact that the section through Huntly is about to be tar-sealed and the blinding material would be most unsuitable where tar-sealing was concerned, hence “metal only” has been the slogan till the sealing process starts. It is hoped that this will be possible as soon as a few formalities of the Loans Board are complied with. “Every possible effort has been made to push on this necessary and urgent work,” said Mr. George, ‘ but we have been held up by the Loans Board s formalities, and as they only meet once a month, you will readily see that time is not the ‘essence of the contract,’ as far as that body is concerned, when we wish to push on with an urgent public need.” Mr. George was emphatic in his assertion that once these unnecessarv formalities were got over, the work would so
