Otahuhu Club’s Spring Fixture
OPENS AT EPSOM TO-MORROW The spring fixture of the Otahuhu Trotting Club will be commenced at Alexandra Park to-morrow, when under favourable circumstances splendid sport should be witnessed. The track has been in fine order of late and speed should be one of the features of the function. ion INTRODUCTORY HANDICAP Of £300; 1J miles; 3.47 limit. Billy Carbine. Lt. Sixteen figure on the card for the initial event, but Colonel Thorpe Lt. Quickflre, an early fancy, did not come North. The Chessey . . . Lt. majority of the starters will be off the front, of which Roe ? ™ „ ‘ ' f'i' Real Todd and Royal Bob will command most attention. Real T °dd . . Lt. Tlle f ormer j s a likely sort and Royal Bob should do Solidity ' . Lt! better than when seen at Epsom last month. The Mona Moio", ! Lt. Taranaki trotter, Bright Light, is nicely placed and is Quickflre . . . Lt. sure to carry the confidence of his friends. Peter Tracey Debalzac . . . Lt. has been off the scene for some time, but is trained Yds. bhd. at Te Awamutu, where they appear to be able*to effect S r i srh V I ' leht ‘ oi a good come-back. If returned to form Peter will be Romn Tra Tt?niren 4S troublesome. Roma Bingen has not yet done her best Great Change . 84 on the grass and Gold Star will require to improve on Anseline . . ! 96 his recent essays to get the money. Great Change cannot be left out of the argument and will no doubt take a big part in the final settlement. Anseline has sufficient .pace, but will she go solid? The public may rely on BRIGHT LIGHT, GREAT CHANGE AND PETER TRACEY. |2 45 MANGERE HANDICAP Of £300; 11 miles; 3.571 limit. Golden Grattan Lt. . , , _ , , , Jean McElwyn. Lt. This heat promises to provide a very large field, and Dillon Huon . Lt. of the 28 acceptors, 18 figure on the front. It will be one Concertina . . Lt. 0 f those contests where position at the barrier and • • • ■ pt- ability to begin quick will count a whole heap. Royal ■ ■ ■T f Authoress will not appear, but the useful filly, Jean Halgana ", 1 Lt! McElwyn, will be one from the front that will comGoiden Park . Lt. mand a lot of respect and the representative of the Maid of popular local sportsman, G. McMillan, will probably be Mountain . . . Lt. favourite. Golden Grattan cannot be passed over Silver Link . . Lt. lightly, and Dillon Huon, if improved, will be in the se?5 e ?2 y ™ , on •• 7, picture. Beatty was showing up at Alexandra Park Rnval Authoress Lt last month, and should do better to-morrow. Hohora Son ! Lt! ran prominently in June, and as he will be bracketed Admiral Hood Lt. with Roamer, another solid sort, the pair will commend Peter Grattan . Lt.. respect. Horizon and Admiral Hood will also be Typist .... Lt. bracketed, and the former should be in the limelight. Yds. bhd. Gold Circle is a good one, but may not fare too well at Bingen King . 12 th e get-awav. Typist will only require to be right to (4 ut - • {» make it difficult for the others. Another bracket in Roamer 12 Uramic and Master Cute should be in demand, but of Tony Victor ! 12 the back lot, Tony Victor and Padlock are bound to Ursuline ... 24 appeal to backers. If the latter has struck form it will High Sea ... 24 he hard on those behind him and a lot in front. Taipare Padlock . . . 24 m W ant a race and most support will probably be Marionette • • 36 - .«.■ Taiparl .... 48 found for: JEAN McELWYN, PADLOCK, HOHORA—ROAM ER BRACKET. IOC ONEHUNGA HANDICAP I«DD of £300; 2 miles; 4.39 limit. Reliance . . . Lt. This will be one of the gems of the day as every Pointalena ... 12 horse engaged has a chance. Pointalena will be misLuvan .... Lt. sing, but Luvan and Reliance are on the end and if I Yds bhd. tilo former decided to go right she would lead those * * Ia behind her a merry dance. 1 Hypo ■ ■ ■ 24 Tamahere-trained pacer has cpme on right since the Wallroon I 36 Auckland fixture it will take something solid to beat Woodvale ... 36 him. Gold Jacket’s recent effort when just topped oft Amaris .... 30 by William the Great will make his friends fancy his Uncle Bert . . 36 prospects, but it must not be forgotten there were a few r,m U^ mor ® I? behind him on that occasion that did not have too Uord Nepean ' 48 much luck in the running, among them being Uncle Waikaha . . ! 4S Bert, who was stopped early, Dick Dillon, who looked a winner into the straight, and Lord Nepean, who got chopped and boxed more than once. These three all have a chance of proving to-morrow how unlucky they were before. There is a lot of talk about Florent, but all the same he will be on the danger zone, while Woodvale only wants to set out smartly on the trip to say good-bye. Amaris has Christchurch racing in his favour, but the grass track is somewhat against him. All the same he is well-seasoned and on Addington form must take a hand in the question. Lady Dunmore may not be ready to see out a stiff two miles, but Waikaha, the trotter, is one that will stretch the necks of- the best in the heat. Hypo will find the journey too far, and Wallroon is likely to bob up any time. The machine may indicate: UNCLE BERT, AMARIS, GOLD JACKET, o9c JELLICOE HANDICAP of £1,000; 2 miles; 4.33 limit. Tds. bhd. Of the eight acceptors, Tom Thumb will be an Black Lila . . 12 absentee, and First Carbine will not start. The only Holly Boy . . 34 Southerners to contest the big stake will be Cardinal Jewel Pointer . 24 Logan and Sea Pearl, and the latter is owned in Anselm .... 24 Auckland. With all except one owned here, it would TrlmVhifmh 6 ' fill be perhaps reasonable to expect the thick end of the Cardinal Lo~an 72 purse to remain here for once, but everything points to Sea Pearl .°. . S 4 it still going South. Black Lila, who has the option of going away with the lead, may decide to stay there and upset the pot. She has a good performance over two miles to her credit, and she has beaten Logan Lou, a great mare, over a shorter journey. Holly Boy, if right, is a tough proposition, but of late he has not raced up to form, although he is working well at Mangere. Anselm, when wound up, can pat over two miles at a solid clip and he is one that will make a bold bid for a slice of the stake. Jewel Pointer, despite his penalty, will have a host of friends and he promises to make the race interesting for the pre-post favourite, Cardinal Logan. The latter’s great effort over the last half-mile of the New Zealand Cup, warrants the position he has attained in the market for the Jellicoe Handicap, but in Jewel Pointer he will meet with strong opposition. Sea Pearl does not appear to have come right yet, but if in anything approaching her best, would get a share of the spoils. The public will go for: CARDINAL LOGAN, JEWEL POINTER, SEA PEARL. OIA ' STEWARDS’ HANDICAP ««1U pf £300; 11 miles; 3.30 limit. Daytime .... Lt. Daytime, who has been expected to do things for Klngsclere ." ." Lt. some time past, will attract most attention of those Araroa .... Lt. on the front of this heat, in which the promising Great Lord Minto . . Lt. Ballin is billed to make an appearance. Dad’s Hope Great Bamn . . fit should account for Toll Chimes, and in fact the AusToll Chimes .’. 12 ’ tralian pacer will beat most of those in front of him, Dad’s Hope ! . 12 and a big lot of those behind. Reremai will be at Reremai .... 24 home over this distance and will put up a royal battle Bus Buz . . . . 24 with her former Rival, Loch Moigh and both of these Morn • will give Dad’s Hope and Daytime plenty to do if they Loch Moigh !! 24 are to Set any of the money. Mars is another that Luvan . . .’ ‘ 36 will command a lot of respect and will not cry ’’enough’’ Van Rich ... 36 till the post is reached Festive Morn will also make Goldman ... 72 things interesting, but those further back seem to have a big contract to overtake a few of those mentioned
further out. The favourites may be:— LOCH MOIGH, REREMAI, DAYTIME. 1 CC CAMPBELL HANDICAP **•*'*' of £400; 2 miles; 4.44 limit. King Capitalist Lt. There is not a big field in this race for the better Ngatlra 12 class square-gaiters, and on recent form it looks as if Petroleuse ’. " 12 the Taranaki bracket, Sister Beatrice and Petroleuse Sister Beatrice .24 will be the big order. The former has been well in the The Tartar ... 24 picture when raced with Betty Moko, Trampfast and Mutu . . . .24 Co and with all the speed kings absent should have a Tradesman inney 48 good chance of getting her name inscribed on the list. Peter Dean Ngatira, if back to form, will give a lot of cheek, while The Tartar has only to go off right to be nuisance to the opposition. Mutu is another solid old chap that might bob up, but Peter McKinney should hold the majority of those in front of him safe. Tradesman, on his showing in the race with Trampfast last month, must take a power of beating and will give the bracket a big shock. Peter Dean does not seem right yet, so the public will plump for: SISTER BEATRICE—PETROLEUSE BRACKET, TRADESMAN, PETER McKinney. AA C MASSEY HANDICAP Of £500; li miles; 2.48| limit. Lady Joan . . . Lt. me absence of Tom Thumb will reduce the size of Dick Dillon . . Lt. the field to ten, providing all the others go to the Amaris .. . . Lt. post . I{ Lady j oa n has effected a come-back she will I ord Nepean" 12" give those at the rear something to do, and Dick Dillon I Nelson Tasker ! 12 and Amaris, good as they are, may not gather up speed Holly Boy ... 24 quick enough to beat some of those behind them. Lord Anselm 24 Nepean will be handy, and if started earlier in the day First Carbine .24 w m benefit by the race. Nelson Tasker looks the pick ?££ll T pomter ‘l6 of the orchard and has recent winning form to recomNelson Fame .’. 60 mend him. He is better than ever and the task of those 'behind him will a difficult one. Holly Boy may find the distance to his liking, and will be bracketed with Nelson Fame and this will encourage speculators to be with him. Anselm has a lot of dash and will make it hard and First Carbine, if the horse of former days, would make no race of it. Jewel Pointer is on a tight mark and will be coupled with
Amaris, and Nelson Fame should be able to get among them this time. Favouritism may be divided between: —- NELSON TASKER, NELSON FAME—HOLLY BOY BRACKET, LORD NEPEAN. C 4ft MANUKAU HANDICAP (Saddle) Of £350; 1 mile; 2.18 limit. 1 This will be the popular heat of the day and a good Kingsciere '' ' Lt' field is engaged. On the end is Our Patch and Blair Scandal . . . . Lt. Audubon, both winners with the weight on top, while Tranquil . . . Lt. Scandal is one that will take all sorts of beating. DayRuapere . . . Lt. time is an unknown quantity in saddle, but should have ' Lt ' enough pace to be a nuisance. Rua Pere can go a child . . Lt. merry mile with weight up and Logan Rothschild will Huon Grattan . Lt. be suited by the distance, as also will Huon Grattan. Blair Audubon. Lt. Loch Moigh has an earlier engagement and may decline Yds. bhd. the second outing. Van Rich has worked pleasingly in '' ll saddle and will be in the picture, being bracketed with Van 1 Rich ' ' 12 Gold Jacket, and Mulwaree must not be discarded. He Mulwaree ... 12 put up a gallant fight with Direct Morning in the final Caprice .... 24 heat at Epsom last month over ten furlongs, and will Gold Jacket .. 24 enjoy the shorter journey. Caprice is a good mare in Uncle Bert .-• 24 saddle and won i n hollow style in Wellington, and must Hu “hR? Wallace 36 have a royal show. Gold Jacket and Uncle Bert have HUohie \\ allace prev ious engagements, but if reserved for this, either could make it interesting. Uncle Bert may take this on as well as the Onehunga, and will be knocking hard. Walroon, if he leaves, must be reckoned with. The machine may favour: MULWAREE, UNCLE BERT, CAPRICE.
