TECHNICAL COLLEGE SHORT OF PLAY AREAS
EYES ON NORMAL SCHOOL Hope was voiced by the Board of Managers of the Seddon Memorial College at its meeting a fortnight ago that the Normal School playgrounds might be used next year for the benefit of Technical College scholars when the Normal School would be closed down. A letter was sent to the Auckland Education Boaxd pointing out that the college lacked sufficient recreation grounds for its pupils and asking permission to use the Normal School grounds. In reply to the request the Education Board wrote .stating that at present there was no intention to vacate the Normal School building, but it has been resolved that an ordinary primary school would be continued from the beginning of next year. However, the board would be pleased to confer with the Technical College governors regarding the use of the grounds in question in event of the property being in the future no longer required for primary school purposes. At a meeting of the Technical College Board held yesterday afternoon the school director, Mr. G. J. Park, said that in view of the overcrowded state of the present playing grounds strong representations should be made to the Education Department for the provision of additional accommodation. Agreeing with such action the chairman, Mr. A. Burt, said that when the neiV college hall was built the playing grounds would be reduced by onethird. It was decided to write at once to the department pointing out the seriousness of the position and asking for its assistance.
