“DRY” PICNIC
COUNCIL EMPLOYEES COMPLAIN (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. The Christchurch City Council outside employees this year have had their selection of a place for their annual picnic restricted to three. In a letter which their committee has received from the town clerk, presumably on the instructions of the council or the Mayor, the Rev. J. K. Archer, three places are mentioned— Ashburton, Motukarara and Kowai Bush. No reason for the revocation of the privilege of an untrammelled Choice has been given, but a council employee remarked to-day to a reporter, “the first shot has been fired in a no-more-beer campaign.” Ashburton is a nolicence area and there are no hotels at either of the other two places. The town clerk’s letter also stated that no beer was to be taken.
