“SPURIOUS SPORT”

METHODIST SYNOD AGAINST TIN HARES Attention to the probable detrimental effect of the proposed sport of tinhare racing, upon the morals of young people, was directed at the Methodist Synod yesterday morning, when the Rev. A. B. Chappell brought before Synod the findings of a committee representing jointly the Methodist ministers’ fraternal and the Auckland Methodist Young Men’s Bible Class Union. The following resolution was carried unanimously, and without discussion:— • “That believing wholesome recrea - tion to have a high value for life, and to be essential to the development of young people, this Synod is impressed with the duty of guarding pastimes from the invasion of spurious sport and facilities for gambling, and therefore views with concern the efforts being made to introduce into the Dominion greyhound coursing with mechanical hares and deprecates the part being taken in these efforts by some men in prominent public positions."
