FOREIGNERS CARRY MOST NATION’S FOREIGN TRADE By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.22 a.m. WASHINGTON, Wed. The United States Shipping Board announces that American vessels carried less than one-third of the American foreign trade during 1926. A survey showed that 5,761 ships, aggregating 26,330,000 tons, handled the nation’s foreign trade. Of those ships, 1,678. totalling 7,336,000 tons, were American-owned. The United States Shipping bill for 1926 amounted to more than £145,600,000. Foreign shippers received over £96,000,000 for carrying United States trade.—A. and N.Z.
