WORLD’S BEST SELLER STILL THE BIBLE
BRITISH AND FOREIGN BIBLE , SOCIETY The Bible is still the “best seller” in the world to-day. Over 10,000,000 Bibles, New Testaments, and portions of Scripture were circulated last year. New Zealand took 25,700 Bibles, as against 8,000 in 1924. There was no doubt, therefore, said Archbishop Averill, who presided at yesterday’s annual meeting of the British and Foreign Bible Society, that the Bible was the best, seller. The measure in which a people grew away from the Bible, declared the Rev. J. W. Kemp, was the measure of its decadence. He drew attention to the firct that this year’s finances showed a deficit of £16,310. The Auckland Auxiliary elected the following officers for the year: President, Archbishop Averill; vicepresidents, Canon Haselden, Revs. G. Bond, J. W. Kemp, Evan R. Harries and L. B. Fletcher, Messrs. R. L. Stewart, and R. A. Laidlaw; honorary auditor, Mr. Thos. E. .Whitton; honorary solicitor, Mr. W. D. M. Glaister; chairman of committee, Mr. H. Field; committee, Revs. W. A.
