ELECTRICITY FOR WAITEMATA
THERE is this much to commend the proposal of the Waitemata Power Board to borrow £.80.000 for the extension of reticulation—that the board has from its inception shown itself to be a business-like body. It has not hastily run lines here and there, trusting to the extensions to create a demand for electricity; it has reticulated only where the demand has existed, and although it has spent the original £200,000 loan sooner than was anticipated, the money has been used to build up what has already proved to be a profitable undertaking and one which provides most useful service. These facts should be considered by the ratepayers who are asked to go to the poll to-morrow and vote on the loan issue, and they will do -well to bear in mind that tlfiere is a steady and increasing demand for electricity in Waitemata. The board has given its assurance that it will adhere to its policy of extending reticulation only to those areas which assure profitable business or in which it is adequately guaranteed by residents, and in these circumstances there appears to be no reason why the ratepayers should not approve of the loan.
