GIRL GUIDES’ CORNER
“The Dominion Girl Guide” for November is an interesting number and contains news from all quarters. In this issue there is an account of the Girl Guides’ International Camp at Geneva, with two photographs, one of which is a group of English-speaking Guides from Britain, Australia, Canada, India, United States, Egypt and Scandinavia. The result of the competition for Lone Guides is announced, the award being won by Lone Guide Gertie Woodley, of Mangamingi, near Eltham. Guides and Brownies are invited to enter for a painting competition which closes at Dominion Headquarters on November 25. * * * The Domain was not available last SatLirday for the practice for the Grand Rally which will be held on November 19, but a successful rehearsal was carried out in the grounds of St. Cuthbert’s College. The Grand Rally proper should attract a large number of spectators to the Domain, where 1,000 Guides will combine in staging a gigantic pageant and demonstration. St. Mark’s Girl Guides were present at St. Aidan’s Church, Remuera, last Sunday, in conjunction with the church parade of the St. Aidan’s Boy Scouts, and listened to an inspired address, delivered by Canon Williams. At the Methodist Church, Greenwood’s Corner, Epsom, the Tahutimai Girl Guides recently held a very successful bazaar and their funds for the Christmas camp will benefit considerably as a result. The Tahutimai Scouts lent their assistance in decorating the hail. The Tauranga Girl Guides held a very successful concert at the town hall, on November 4, when there was an excellent attendance of the general public. The first half of the programme was devoted to a camp fire and the second portion was contributed by Miss C. Hall and her pupils, who gave a display of artistic dancing. The proceeds are to be devoted to the camping funds. Little Silver Crescent, a Wellington Guide-Brave, writes that she is to take part in a Guide concert to be held shortly. She is to appear in a play, “Becky Sharp,” and will also contribute a dance and recitation. Little Feather writes: “Our company of Guides (All Saints’) celebrated its fourth birthday last Wednesday, and we had a splendid time. During the evening some of the Guides were presented with badges which they had won. I received four my Ambulance, Needlewoman’s, Clerk’s and Authoress, and I have now won my Embroideress badge.” —REDFEATHER. God gives all men all earth to love, But since man’s heart is small, , Ordains for each one spot shall prove Beloved over all. —Kipling.
