MANUKAU COUNTY’S ROADING GRANTS
£3,400 TO BE SPENT In the Public Works Estimates for 1927-28 new roading grants voted to the Manukau County Council totalled £3,400, and in addition, all balances of grants not fully expended or collected prior to March 31 were re-voted. In the report of the county engineer, Mr. J. R. Page, submitted to the council yesterday, were particulars of the proposed expenditure. Allocations of the new money were as follow: —Kawakawa to Matingarahi (£2 for £l, £4OO free), £1,600; Mill Road Bridge (£1 for £1),.£750; Papatoetoe to Howick (£1 fox- £1), £300: Umith’s Bridge, Brookby (£1 for £1), ,£750. Other grant? requiring to be dealt with on a £ 1 for £ 1 basis (except where other-wise stated) were:—Buckland’s Beach Road, £300; Maungaroa Gorge Road, £ 100; - Alfriston to Papakura, £756; Whitford to Brookby, £163; Clevedon to Takanini, £25; Flat Bush Road to Redoubt Road, £100; Papatoetoe to Howick, £300; Wade’s Bridge, £150: Waikopua to Maraetai, portion of £1,000; Clevedon to Kawakawa, £337; Moumoukai Hill Road, £69; Ward’s Bridge (£4 for £5), £SOO. Mr. Page recommended that, until authorities were in hand, survey and plant work in connection with the expenditure of the grants should be treated as urgent, in order that the maximum amount of grant mon«*y might be expended and collected during the financial year. The engineer’s report and recommendations were adopted.
