COMPETITION FOR CHRISTMAS HAMPERS
LODGE SECRETARY CHARGED CASE DISMISSED Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. James Alexander Jackson, secretary of a lodge, was charged to-day with having commenced a “Christmas Hamper Competition,” whereby prizes were to be disposed by mode of chance. He pleaded not guilty, counsel stating that defendant had not commenced the scheme. The magistrate dismissed the charge, saying it was a straight-out criminal charge, and he would require to be satisfied of guilt.
