BIG BENZINE STORE SAVED BY CHANCE
DESTRUCTION FRUSTRATED (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. From all accounts a lucky chance prevented serious destruction at Whitiora, Hamilton, yesterday, when an apparently deliberate attempt was made to fire a big concrete benzine store owned by Mr. F. J. Farrell. The building has a capacity of 10,000 cases and on Monday there were between 3,000 and 4,000 cases in stock. When an employee opened up yesterday morning he found that a stick covered with inflammable material had been inserted between the door and the wall. The material was charred and the side of a case burned. Apparently lack of air caused the fire to go out, otherwise the explosion inevitable would have been disastrous to adjacent dwellings.
