THE ACTUAL FIGURES
SUN’S CIRCULATION REACHES 22,000 At the very time this incident was taking place in the railway carriage THE SUN office had come to the end of the week’s work. That day’s paper had been distributed over the city and suburbs; the street sellers were crying “last race edition!” in the city and the cars employed in THE SUN motor services were speeding out into the country to serve inland towns. The press, which the Auckland “Star” spies are alleged to have timed with a stop-watch on various occasions, actually printed 23,620 copies of THE SUN. Returns, spoiled copies, the free copies issued to advertising agents, complimentary copies to other newspapers, exchanges, office files, etc., amounted to 1.31 S copies, leaving a total of net circulation in excess of 22,000. This is THE SUN’S reply to the repeated slanders of our competitors in the matter of circulation. We claim that it is a creditable record to put up in about seven months in the face of the unscrupulous nature of the competition to which we have been exposed and the figures are open to the inspection and examination of any SUN advertiser who desires to verify them for himself.
