LATE SISTER MARY PETER

Sister Mary Peter, who died at St. Mary’s Convent. Ponsonby, on Sunday at the age of 73, was born in County Sligo and came to New Zealand in the ship Lutterworth 47 years ago. Almost immediately after her arrival she entered St. Patrick’s Convent, Parnell, later moving to St. Mary's. For over 30 years she visited the sick in the slum areas and was a constant visitor at the hospital. Until a year ago she was among the poor of the city every day. She was a successful teacher and her decoration of the altar at St. Patrick’s Cathedral was greatly admired. Numerous messages of sympathy have been received at the convent.
