VALUABLE COLLECTION

GIFTS TO UNIVERSITY A selection of eucalypt specimens, which is regarded as second only to a. herbarium in Sydney in value has been presented by the Rev. J. H. Simmonds to the School of Forestry. The collection is the result of years of careful search in Australia and New Zealand, and is well preserved and set out. The appreciation of the University College Council was expressed yesterday. The gift will be suitably housed and named “The Simmonds’ Herbarium of Eucalypts.’ Other gifts recently received are 500 lantern slides and films from the Rev. Stanley Morrison, a sketch prize from Mr. T. A. Sladdin, £2O for commerce scholarships from the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, £IOO to the medical library from the Auckland branch of the 8.M.A., and a medical work dated 1754 from Dr. Gunson.
