FIRE AT OPOTIKI
BLOCK OF SHOPS DAMAGED CHRISTMAS STOCK LOST Press Association. OPOTIKI, To-day. A wooden block of buildings in the centre of the town, owned by Messrs. McGrevy Bros., was destroyed by fire at 2.30 a.m. The shops were occupied by Mrs. Voss, tearooms and confectionery: G. Wells, cyclery; and P. Clark, accountant. The fire started in the tearooms and had a good hold before the brigade arrived. Brick walls on both sides confined, the outbreak to three shops. All were insured, but the occupiers will be heavy losers in Christmas goods and stock.
