“FLESH AND THE DEVIL"
MAJESTIC ON FRIDAY In “Flesh and the Devil,”' a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production, commencing at the Majestic on Friday, John Gilbert is the impelling central figure of the story. As Leo Von Harden, Gilbert plays the role of an army officer, and he is strongly attracted to his best friend’s wife, who is a beautiful woman without conscience. Though his honour ultimately prevails, the young wife drives him into an abyss of despair, and there are some won-
derful scenes in which these two appear together. Greta Garbo plays the wife with astounding realism. The picture definitely places her at the pinnacle of her profession. She is ably supported in her role by Lars Hanson, who takes the part of her injured husband, Ulrich Von Eltz. George Fawcett and other favourite featured players support the three stars.
