AWARDING RACING PRIZES

PROPOSED SLIDING SCALE While the sliding scale of prize value brought forward by a member of the Ponsonby Cruising Club executive was received very sympathetically by a number of the committee, the question of a definite commitment seemed to be the obstacle to its adoption. Lengthy discussion took place, but it was finally decided to revert to the old order of three starters or no race. The previous adoption of the four starters or no race rules met with a good deal of dissatisfaction, and the sliding scale suggestion was the outcome of open discussion on the point to affect a sort of compromise. Boatowners naturally will welcome the retaining of the old rule bearing on the subject of numbers starting, but they must not lose sight of the fact that entries have been so poor in most classes in recent years that it warranted the club’s trying to formulate a remedy.
