CHILDREN LOSE THEIR CLUB-ROOM
WORK AT FREEMAN’S BAY Next week the Play and Recreation' Association, which has been doing a splendid work in Freeman’s Bay for the children, will lose the building on which it has carried on its operations. The committee is trying to. find another building, and will make an appeal to the public for financial assistance on December 2. Mrs. N. E. Ferner, J.P., presided over a very well attended meeting which this morning finalised arrangements for the appeal. A very large number of children have grown to make the Community Club, as it is called, a centre of their interests. The attendance numbers over 500 a week. The boys learn boxing, wrestling, gymnastics and various arts and crafts, and produce sports teams as well. The girls take part in the athletic side, and learn sewing, embroidery and similar arts. Occasionally a departure is made from the usual, and visitors are invited. Recently the girls had a mothers’ night, and next Thursday the boys will introduce their fathers to the club.
