Alda on Australians DOMINION PRAISED “A LOVELY PLACE" By Cable. —Press Association Copi/n'sft* VANCOUVER, Saturday. The well-known singer, Madam# Prances Alda, who was in her birthplace, New Zealand, recently, arrived to-day in the Aorangi at Vancouver. Speaking of her Australian tour while waiting for her baggage to hi examined. Madame Alda aid:— “Never again! I have done with Australia. What a place it is! The people are simply loathsome, and tin hotels are abominable. The theatres are unendurable and the railways unsufferable. There is no heating ing in that country. I did not find one concert hall with a temperature higher than that of aa ice-box, and I was in my most decoleta gowns. I would rather have sung ia this customs shed. “New Zealand is different,” said Madame Alda. “It is a lovely place, with a lovely people and a lovely climate." When reminded that New Zealand is her birth-place, Madame Alda replied: “I left New Zealand when I was an infant, so it is not a question of local pride. I like New Zealand. I loathe Australia.”—A. and N.Z.
