Suburban Canvas Brings Sum of £475
UNEMPLOYED APPEAL CITY NOT COMPLETED j The household collection on Satur- ! day morning - in aid of the Mayor’s : £5,000 appeal for unemployed relief j realised £475, and the finishing up of i this section of the appeal is expected to raise the amount to £SOO. The result of the city collection is not yet available, few of the lists having I been handed in, and the collectors re- | quiring to-day and probably to-morrow jto complete the canvas. Mr. P. J. • Crump, who has supervised the appeal, expects to announce the result by \ Wednesday. Flower day realised £ISS. The salaried staff at the Town Hall has added another £lßl to the fund and will make a further contribution next month. The Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, is considering- a suggestion that a motorcycle race meeting should be run in aid of the fund. The house-to-house collection on Saturday was organised by Cr. Ellen Melville and Mr. W. IT. Prentis. The Automobile Association arranged cars.
