LIFE OF SERVICE

LATE MR. G. ALDRIDGE

PASTOR’S WORK REMEMBERED

A memorial tablet to the late Mr. George Aldridge, for 43 years pastor of the West Street Church of Christ, was unveiled during a special service at the church last evening. Mr. J. Laurie Wilcock, one of those who welcomed Mr. Aldridge on arrival at Auckland, in an address upon his life-work, spoke of the difficulties that had to be encountered in the early days of the church in Auckland, and the preaching and literary ability of their late pastor. Mr. Charles F. Garratt and Mr. E. Aldridge, Mayor of Devonport, and son of the late pastor, also spoke. The memorial, a brass tablet in the form of a scroll, and attached to a handsome oak slab, 7ft by 4ft, was unveiled by Mr. Wilcock. On the tablet is a memorial inscription, followed from Corinthians iv. 17, and Titus i. 9.
