NEW REGENT
“FAST AND FURIOUS’’ All the Ingredients that go to make up a rib-cracking comedy plentifully interlarded with fast action, thrills, suspense and an appealing love theme are embodied in “Fast and Furious,” Reginald Denny’s latest Universal-Jewel picture, which is now being shown at the New Regent Theatre. “Fast and Furious” is the screen version of an original short story by the star himself, filmed under the direction of Mel Brown from an adaptation by Raymond Cannon. The picture certainly does not belie its name. There isn’t a dull moment in it. The action is fast, and the fun ! is furious. The irrepressible Denny | comes to grips with a situation that 1 calls for an exhibition of nerve, finesse and adroitness and he comes out on top with his customary sang froid. Playing the leading feminine role opposite dashing Denny is pert and vivacious Barbara Worth, whose beauty, charm' and personality make her a worthwhile prize for the winner of the thrilling auto race, staged at one of the largest racing tracks on the West Coast. A sterling cast of players* support. The supporting picture items include an uproarious “Let George Do It” comedy entitled "George Leaves Home,” a Regent topical budget of carefully selected items of world interest, a Pathe colour review, and an interesting travelogue of ancient and modern Italy. The vaudeville side of the programme is provided by Vaughn, master of the xylphone, -who is now in his second week, following upon his most successful appearances last week. Vaughn will preset entirely new numbers in his programme. Eddie Horton plays selected items at the organ and a strong musical programme, including “lolanthe,” “Berenice” and the Hungarian “Lustpiel,” by Kela Bela, is played by the Regent operatic orchestra under the baton of Mr. Maurice Guttridge.
