“SWEET ROSIE O’GRADY” Shirley Mason is the lovely Cinder ella of the sidewalks in Columbia’s film version of the old Maude Nugent song, “Sweet Rosie O’Grady,” a Master picture release now being shown at the Empire Theatre. The cast, including Cullen Landis, Lester Bernard, E. Alyn Warren, William Conklin, and Otto Lederer, have been selected for talent. In every instance make-up and mannerisms, excepting in the excellent portrayal of an Irish politician by Conklin, have resulted in some of the most amusing Jewish character portrayals. Seldom does the motion picturegoer see upon the screen a hostorical romance as vivid and colourful as “California.” Tim McCoy’s latest starring vehicle, which is also being shown at the Empire Theatre. The picture is based on a story from the pen of Peter B. Kyne, and was written specially for McCoy. It is laid in California in 1846; the era of ron ance and conquest, suitable for a picture of love and action, against a background of fact.
A cast of all-New Zealand “stars” will appear in “The Te Kooti Trail,” a forthcbming Rudall Hayward production, shortly to be released in Auckland. Among the well-known names are Tina Hunt, daughter of Guide Susan, Arthur Lord, Rev. Jasper Calder, the well-known City Missioner, Captain Redmond, Robert Yandall, Tom McDermott, and talented little Miss Billie Andreasson.
